Math Games To Go !!
Many of the math games enjoyed by Pond Cove students in the Math Lab are available for check-out in the Media Center! Generously funded by the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation, over 300 games have been created by Math Lab teacher Debbie Butterworth and 3rd grade teacher Julie Merriam, and are available for kids, parents and teachers to borrow from the Media Center.
Games focus on Common Core standards, and include skill practice for computation, place value, telling time, money, comparing numbers and counting.

First graders are continuing to take turns being on the Tech Team when they visit Math Club and help their classmates navigate through math games on their iPads.

Kindergarten classes visited Math Club this week for the first time!  They rotated through three centers, including an activity on the SmartBoard, creating and describing patterns.  They also learned the meaning of the word "perimeter" !  Imagine that! Such a sophisticated word for a Kindergartner to know and understand!  They used to to describe where to sit on the rug....around the perimeter!

Second graders are figuring out what makes a number even or odd.  It was pretty impressive when they could identify numbers in the 100s and 1000s as even or odd by just looking at the digit in the ones place!

First graders LOVED learning how to play a favorite game called "Roll Them Out"  Several made me "pinky-promise" to make more versions of this game.

Every visitor to Math Club has the chance to estimate the number of items in the jar.  Second Graders take this challenge very seriously and apply some pretty sophisticated strategies when figuring ouot their answer.

We have so many tech-savvy first graders!  They will be taking turns being the Math Lab's
"Tech Team", and will be available to help classmates during Math Club time.  The Tech Team vest makes it OFFICIAL.

Second graders can make lots of ways to show a number.....money, dice, dominoes, number lines, fact families...
